An ISORA race competitor issued an emergency 'Mayday' call after going aground on Dublin Bay in Sunday's third race of the association's coastal series.

Local boats, nearby competitors, including ISORA Chairman Peter Ryan's yacht 'Tsunmai', and the Dun Laoghaire RNLI All weather lifeboat responded to the distress call.

They stood by after the 32-footer Hijacker struck rocks on the southern tip of the bay.

The Dun Laoghaire-based yacht was completing the four-hour course off the Dublin coast when it grounded on rocks known as the Muglins, which also marked a point on the ISORA course.

After the yacht was freed from the rocks, it was escorted back to Dun Laoghaire Harbour by the lifeboat.

Afterwards, the yacht's skipper posted on social media: "Hijacker retired; everyone is fine. We are very grateful to everyone who came to help us. Big thanks to the Tsunami Team and the RNLI for their support!".
