Ireland’s Sienna Wright remains just one point off the lead of the ILCA 6 Youth World Championships after the girls’ fleet failed to complete any racing on the penultimate day in Aarhus. Very inconsistent and shifty winds on Aarhus Bay left the women without a result on Tuesday, meaning their championship standings remain unchanged going into Wednesday’s final day.
Greece’s Hermionie Ghicas continues to lead on 13 points, with Wright second on 14 and New Zealand’s Chloe Turner third on 30. The washout leaves Wright firmly in contention for the world title, with up to three races still possible on the final day.

“It was a boring day. I wished they had tried to get a race in, but I guess it was a bit too shifty,” Wright said. “I actually like light and shifty conditions, so for me everything is good. There are still three possible races left, and I just try to focus on myself and my own race. If I do that, there’s nothing more to ask for.”
Wright has put together an impressively consistent championship and will begin the final day with the narrowest possible deficit to Ghicas.
Cronin Drops Ten Places After Sole Men’s Race
There was some racing for the boys, with one race completed in the men’s Gold Fleet.
Ireland’s Conor Cronin, who had been 33rd overall after Day 4, finished 53rd in Tuesday’s race and slipped ten places to 43rd overall on 161 net points. Cronin remains the leading Irish male sailor and has recorded both a race win and a second-place finish during the championship.
The remaining Irish sailors shown in the standings retained their Day 4 positions, with Marcus Shelley 98th, Cormac Byrne 145th, Eolann Miles 155th, Rory Brennan-Hobbs 157th, Harry Dunne 172nd and Under-17 Max O’Hare 176th. Joseph Robinson remains 195th, Eduardo Gasset 205th and Under-17 Jack Ives 237th.
At the head of the men’s fleet, Brazil’s Erik Scheidt extended his overall lead to 15 points, with Croatia’s Toma Smirčić his closest challenger.
