Ewan McMahon of Howth Yacht Club has been awarded one of eight athlete scholarships by the Olympic Federation of Ireland (OFI) for the LA 2028 Olympic cycle.
The funding comes via the International Olympic Committee’s Olympic Solidarity Programme and will support McMahon’s preparation in the ILCA 7 class.
McMahon, a former youth world silver medallist, is listed by Irish Sailing as ranked 13th globally in his class, with a best rank of 11th.
The award allows up to €26,500 over the four‑year cycle, paid in instalments, and covers travel, training, accommodation, coaching and medical insurance.
OFI Chief Executive Peter Sherrard said: “We are delighted to back the potential of these young athletes and to support them on their qualification pathway to Los Angeles 2028.”
The programme is designed to assist athletes targeting Olympic qualification.
McMahon will now step up his campaign for the Games in Los Angeles, USA, in 2028.
