Dun Laoghaire Harbour sailor and marine biologist Ciarán Crummey has died.
Ciarán, of Bawnboy in County Cavan, unexpectedly passed on 5th September after a short illness, according to an announcement on RIP.ie.
The talented dinghy and keelboat sailor, who was as much at home in a dinghy as a keelboat, was a popular figure on the Irish racing circuits and a keen local DMYC Frostbite sailor too.
In later years, he moved from the Laser, where he had been a performer at national championship level, to the larger Flying Fifteen one-design keelboat at the National Yacht Club, where he sailed as both a helm and a crew.
Most notably, Ciaran sailed with the late Gerry Donleavy before teaming up with Frank Burgess, where the pair were at the top of the DBSC Flying Fifteen fleet sailing 'Snow White' in the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends.
