Anticipating three races, the first day of competition at the Flying Fifteen National Championships produced none after fickle light winds and strong tides spoiled Friday off Dunmore East in County Waterford.
One race was started in four to six knots of shifting wind from the east and a strong tide on Friday afternoon. The 19-boat fleet sailed two rounds before the wind died and the race officer abandoned, deeming the race 'blatantly unfair for the championship series', even though some boats had crossed the finish line.
Racing continues at Waterford Harbour on Saturday and concludes on Sunday.
