Dublin Bay sailors Sean Craig and Stephen Boyle of the Royal St. George Yacht Club and Sutton Dinghy Club, third after Monday's first day of racing, still lead Irish hopes in fourth place at the GP14 World Championships after six races sailed at the Welsh National Sailing Academy in Plas Heli, Pwllheli in North Wales.
The duo were granted redress in race five on Wednesday when they were the Pathfinders but said they were ‘severely impeded repeatedly’ by the race committee's orange guard rib during the start.
Craig protested under (rule 62.1) for redress and, according to provisional results (below), now sits on 40.6 points, some 33.6 points off the lead.
Four Irish boats are in the top ten of the GP14 World Championships after six races sailed at the Welsh National Sailing Academy in Plas Heli, Pwllheli in North Wales.
In a strong performance for a visiting 29-boat Irish contingent in light to medium winds, national champions Ross Kearney and Daniel Nelson from Royal North are next Irish in fifth place on 44. Colman Grimes and Ross Gingles of Skerries Sailing Club are sixth. Wicklow SC and East Antrim Boat Club pair Ger Owens and Melanie Morris are ninth.
Britain's Matt Mee and Chris Robinson of Red Warf Bay Sailing Club continue to lead comfortably with a score of 7 points from Fireball World Champions Tom Gillard and Andy Thompson (of East Antrim Boat Club in Northern Ireland) on 21 points.
There is no racing on Thursday as the fleet enjoys a layday with the championships resuming on Friday.
