The exotic French Trimaran Veolia Environnement was in Dalkey Sound this morning. The high speed craft circled around the island in modest north westerly winds and returned into Dublin Bay for what appeared to be a helicopter publicity-photoshoot. According to vessel tracking system she got up to 14.8 knots and no doubt more!

In the Cruisers One Division Tony Fox's A35 Gringo was first home in blustery conditions in tonight's Dublin Bay race. The DBSC Commodore beat the Corby 33 Contango (Barry Cunningham) for IRC honours. Third home was the J109 Jedi (Sarratt/Austin/McGuinness). In a great turnout for the Dublin Bay fleet prior to the August Bank holiday, George Sisk's new J111 WOW chalked up another win in IRC Zero in Cruisers One.  Vincent Farrell's Tsunmai was second. Sisk's club mate Colin Byrne from the Royal Irish sailing X-travangance was the IRC winner in the Cruisers one division. After making a rare Irish call, the Russian Navy anti-submarine destroyer Admiral Chabaneko (650) departed Dublin Port, this morning, writes Jehan Ashmore.

The 534ft long vessel was built for the KGB Maritime Border Guard and is heavily equipped with missiles, torpedoes, guns and the ability to carry helicopters.

Admiral Chabaneko had arrived on Friday afternoon and docked at berth 30 in the inner port area within Alexandra Basin West. The last Russian naval visit was taken by one of her half-sisters, Severomorsk, a Udaloy-I class destroyer that docked at Ocean Pier in Alexandra Basin East for a three-day visit in 2009.

Taking the Ruffian prize at Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta two weeks ago, Class vice-captain Alan Claffey sailing Diane II added the national title yesterday after a three day series on Dublin Bay. SCROLL DOWN FOR PHOTOS BY GARETH CRAIG.

The championship, hosted by the National Yacht Club, was sailed in light airs, and featured 20 boats, including three boats from Carrickfergus and two from Skerries.

After 2 days, "Carrigeen" from Carrickfergus was leading Diane II by 2 points, but Claffey took two guns on the final day to clinch the championship.

 

Carrigeen was second and Siamsa from Skerries was third.
