A newly released highlights video has added fresh momentum to Ireland’s recent J/24 World Championship success.

Afloat.ie previously reported on the team’s achievement, but the video has drawn renewed attention online and features Headcases' Chinese gybe when they had built a massive lead on day four.

The 45th edition of the J/24 Worlds took place in Plymouth from 6 to 14 September 2025.

Plymouth Yacht Club, Saltash Sailing Club and the UK J/24 Class Association organised the event from the Mount Batten peninsula.

Five days of racing were held south of Plymouth Sound.

Conditions were demanding, with strong winds and heavy seas throughout the week.

“The week proved to be a wild adventure,” said the Plym Yacht Club, noting that both sailors and race officials were ready for rest after the event.

The video wrap-up, by Chambers Film and Media, has been praised for capturing the intensity of the racing and the scale of the Irish performance.

About the J24 keelboat

American Rod Johnstone designed the J/24, a one-design boat, in the mid-1970s.

Since 1977, it has been manufactured and at present, at least 5,500 hulls have been constructed throughout the globe.

The J/24 has significantly contributed to the popularity of competitive sailing, and numerous internationally recognised racing personalities have won international J/24 championships.

This class still thrives and remains a favourite among owners and crews of all levels.
