The Kinsale Yacht Club KINSAILOR U25 sailing programme has concluded after four years, with the team’s J/24 yacht to be placed on the open market.

The update was confirmed by team mentor Dave O’Sullivan, following discussions with club management.

“I regretfully announce that we have reached the end of our KINSAILOR voyage,” O’Sullivan said. “A decision has been taken, in conjunction with Club Management, to put our wonderful J/24 up for sale.”

O’Sullivan paid tribute to the wide group behind the project, including supporters, sponsors and volunteers.

He reserved special praise for the under-25 sailors who crewed the boat during the programme’s lifetime.

“Our brilliant U25 crew have delivered phenomenal results over the past four years,” he said.

The yacht is expected to attract strong interest on the market.

“We expect that our winning yacht will sell very well,” O’Sullivan added.

Funds raised from the sale will be retained by the club.

“Please be assured that our Club Treasurer and Management Committee will find a good use for the funds raised,” he said.

The KINSAILOR project has been a significant platform for youth sailing development within the club.

About the J24 keelboat

American Rod Johnstone designed the J/24, a one-design boat, in the mid-1970s.

Since 1977, it has been manufactured and at present, at least 5,500 hulls have been constructed throughout the globe.

The J/24 has significantly contributed to the popularity of competitive sailing, and numerous internationally recognised racing personalities have won international J/24 championships.

This class still thrives and remains a favourite among owners and crews of all levels.
