The 122-boat IODAI Optimist Munsters at Royal Cork Yacht Club (RCYC) last weekend provided great practice for the Irish European teams competing at events in Carrara, Italy, and Monfalcone, Italy, this July and the International Development Team preparing for the French Open Nationals later this summer.

As Afloat previously reported, the Senior Main Fleet showcased intense competition among 40 talented sailors over the course of four races. Max O'Hare of the Royal St. George Yacht Club (RSGYC) clinched the top spot, closely followed by club mates Maeve Donagh and Holly Cantwell.

Next up for Ireland's top youth fleet is the Western Championships at Galway Bay Sailing Club on the 20th and 21st of July.

Following that, the IODAI National Championships will take place at Howth Yacht Club from August 15th to 18th.

Entries for each are expected to be high, and both are now open for registration via iodai.com.

Howth Yacht Club has also prepared an event website; details for the event can be found here.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven't put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full-time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
