Fourteen countries and more than 160 RS21 sailors will compete in the four-day championship, with European medallists, national champions, and leading Corinthian crews among the contenders.
With less than two weeks until racing begins, six teams have been identified as ones to watch in a fleet that includes some of the strongest performers from the 2025 World Championship and the 2026 European circuit.
As Afloat reported in its earlier championship preview, defending champions Les Freaks and UK and Ireland champions Tiga Tiger were already among the leading entries for the French event.

Defending Champions Face International Challenge
Hong Kong's Les Freaks (HKG 295) arrive in Cannes as the defending world champions, having secured the title at the 2025 RS21 World Championship. The crew will be seeking a second consecutive world title against a field strengthened by several teams with recent championship success.
Italy's Magique et Terrible (ITA 230) are another leading contender. The all-female crew won the 2025 Women's World Championship and then took the 2026 Italian Cup Corinthian title.
The team's progress has been a feature of the class's international development, with RS Sailing highlighting its achievements ahead of this year's championship.
Poland's Ultrastar (POL 247) also bring strong international form, having secured silver in the Corinthian division at the 2025 Worlds and another silver medal at the 2026 European Championship.

The latter result came at the 2026 RS Games in Travemünde, Germany, establishing the Polish crew as consistent performers on the European circuit.
Italian and British Champions Among Contenders
Italy's T-Rex (ITA 161) will look to build on its 2026 Italian Cup victory when the fleet assembles in Cannes.
The Italian champions face the challenge of transferring their domestic success to a world championship fleet featuring leading crews from Europe and beyond.
Britain's Tiga Tiger (GBR 341) arrive with two titles from the 2026 season, having won the UK and Ireland National Championship and the Corinthian division at Act 5 of the Italian Cup. Skippered by Tom Hewitson, Tiga Tiger also won the RS21 UK and Ireland Cup mini-series during the class's Cowes Week debut in August, as covered by Afloat.

Those results give the British crew a strong competitive record ahead of the four-day championship.
Germany's RS Enterprise (GER 289) complete the six-team selection following a silver medal in the Corinthian division at the 2026 European Championship. The German crew will be seeking another international podium finish after its performance at the RS Games in Travemünde.

Four Days of Racing off Cannes
The RS21 World Championship 2026 will bring together 40 entries at Yacht Club de Cannes on the French Mediterranean coast.
While the six highlighted teams bring an established record of championship success, the wider entry includes crews from 14 countries, with competition expected across both the overall and Corinthian standings.

The championship also forms part of the class's expanding international programme. As Afloat previously reported, the RS21 World Championship will move to Weymouth in September 2027, when the event will be staged in the UK for the first time.
The 2026 championship entry list remains open, and more competitors can still join the fleet before racing begins on Wednesday, 28 October. The championship concludes on Saturday, 31 October.
