The adventures of sailor Paddy Barry and musician Breanndán O Beaglaoich on their “tiny car” journey from Ireland to Mongolia is the theme of an illustrated talk hosted by the Dublin Bay Old Gaffers’ Association on March 20th.
As Afloat has reported, Barry and Ó Beaglaoich and four other drivers crossed mountains and deserts in an old Suzuki Jimny car which took them across Iran, a number of the “Stans” and the far corner of Russia.
They had to change a clutch in Kyrgystan and swam in the Black Sea and Caspian Sea, among other adventures en route. Barry, who has sailed in the Arctic and Antarctic, recently won an award for his account of the journey published in The Irish Independent.
“The (Rocky) Road to Mongolia” with Paddy Barry is in aid of the RNLI, and takes place at the Poolbeg Yacht and Boat Club on March 20th at 8 pm.
