Cork Harbour's Chris Bateman and Lucy Loughton sailing Squirrel lead by six points going into the final day of racing at the B14 World Championships in Sydney, Australia, on Friday (January 10th).
The Monkstown Bay Sailing Club (MBSC) pair count five races wins from seven sailed in a 30-boat fleet
The penultimate day of the championships featured a four race day and decidedly Irish weather with heavy downpours and strong winds.
Overall, the only Irish contestants lead Australia's Craig Garmston and Paul Fleming sailing Snatch from Safety Beach Sailing Club who are on the same 13 points as Great Britain's Nick Craig and Toby Lewis sailing Harken from Burghfield in third place.
The 2025 World Championship is being by crews from Australia, the UK, and Europe. It is being hosted by the Woollahra Sailing Club.
As Afloat reported earlier, Bateman and Loughton are on form. However, they narrowly missed out on the pre-worlds title due to gear failure in Saturday's final race of that championship.
Racing was abandoned on Tuesday and Wednesday due to strong winds and concludes on Friday with three final day races. Results are here
