The Frostbite series at Royal Cork Yacht Club made a return on Sunday with a brisk 12-15 knot westerly wind and bright blue skies to set the stage for thrilling dinghy racing.
In the ILCA 4 fleet, Craig O’Neill pulled ahead of his brother Andrew with three victories, proving to be a formidable leader. However, he faced stiff competition from rising stars such as Blake Vaughan and Conor Lynch, while Rachel Hyde, after missing the first day, displayed impressive skills to ascend the leaderboard following a second discard quickly.
In the ILCA 7 category, Jonathan O’Shaughnessy solidified his lead. Some of his competitors may have regretted socialising at the N18 end-of-season night on Saturday as they tried to keep pace. Meanwhile, Emmet O’Sullivan showcased strong efforts in his Aero 7.
The ILCA 6 series remains fiercely competitive, with Phillip Doherty trailing closely behind Sophie Crosbie in her Aero 5. The coming weeks promise an exciting finish to this close contest.
In the mixed dinghy fleet, Oisin Pierce and Fionn Daly led their 49FX, despite a low tide hampering their last race of the day.
The 420 team of Isha Duggan and Tommy Hiras made a comeback, but they will need a second discard to remain competitive in the series.
As the forecast hints at more frostbite-prone conditions ahead, all eyes are on the final day, scheduled for Saturday, November 30th, with prize-giving to follow.
