The RORC Rating Office has appointed Rob Taylor as Deputy Director, with the role taking effect from 7 July.
Taylor joins the office to strengthen its technical, regulatory and international expertise across IRC rating, safety and race management services. He will support the delivery of technical and measurement services, help develop the IRC and YTC rating systems, and work with stakeholders across the sport. His role also includes representing the RORC Rating Office at major events and supporting governance, compliance and safety standards.
A qualified naval architect, Taylor joins from the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency, where he served as Code Vessel Lead and helped develop regulations for small commercial and recreational vessels. He is also a member of the RORC Technical Committee and has previously held senior positions with World Sailing and the Royal Yachting Association. During that time, he worked on racing rules, measurement and equipment compliance at five Olympic Games, as well as World and Continental Championships.
Taylor also brings extensive offshore racing experience, including the Rolex Fastnet Race, Round Ireland Race, Round Britain & Ireland Race and Commodores' Cup campaigns.
Commenting on his appointment, Taylor said: "I'm delighted to be joining the RORC Rating Office and to be back working at the heart of the sport. The Rating Office plays a unique and vital role in yacht racing, and I'm looking forward to contributing to its continued development and supporting the racing community."
The RORC Rating Office said the appointment further strengthens its technical capability as it continues to support fair, safe and trusted racing, from club competition to leading international offshore events.
