There's something very reassuring for the sailing community throughout Ireland when the approach of the new season is signalled by the senior club, the Royal Cork YC, successfully staging the Crosshaven House Pursuit Race to blow the cobwebs away in gathering sunshine.

The special mix of great skill and pure luck needed to pull off the win gives this slightly crazy event its own very special cachet, and of course is we're going to be reassured that all is going to be well, ideally the winner is either the smallest boat racing, or one of the powerful National 18s.

The decidedly mixed month of March has been well seen away with Alex Barry and his crew in their National 18 getting the toot at the weekend, and with summer already hinting big-time, 2025's sailing is well launched.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full-time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
