It would be difficult to think of two places in Ireland more different than Baltimore in rocky West Cork, and Rush on the sandy Rogerstown Estuary in Fingal north of Dublin on the East Coast.
Yet at Cork Week in the Inter-Services Series for the Beaufort Trophy, Rob O’Leary of the Baltimore Lifeboat drew on his contacts as a hot helmsman for the expanding Rush sailing campaigns to have Pat Kelly’s J/109 Storm from Rush become the vehicle for the Baltimore Lifeboat crew in this high-paced “Series within a Regatta”, a series that included a genuine overnight offshore race round the Fastnet Rock. They won in some very close-fought racing. And though it was ultimately a team effort, it was Rob O’Leary who made it all possible.
