Blyth Tall Ship has hosted members of the Association of Lighthouse Keepers during a visit focused on maritime heritage and skills. The group, drawn from across the UK, toured the vessel’s workshops and met craftspeople maintaining traditional techniques.

Shipwright and trainer Nik delivered a detailed boatbuilding talk. He outlined methods used in both historic and modern vessel construction. Visitors also attended a presentation on the Gansey Project. Janice and Astrid explained the origins and cultural value of garter knitting, as well as ongoing preservation work.

The visit concluded with a performance by the Blyth Tall Ship Shanty Singers, providing a traditional musical send-off.

Chief executive Siobhan Sargeant said: “We were thrilled to host such a passionate and knowledgeable group. It was a pleasure to share our work and celebrate the deep-rooted connections within our maritime community.”

Blyth Tall Ship said it hopes to welcome the group again and encourage future sailing participation. The organisation has also released dates for upcoming public and corporate sailing experiences this summer.
