Youth Nationals Racing Cancelled On Saturday At Ballyholme

Grounded fleets: Youth sailors ashore at Ballyholme as strong winds force Saturday racing cancellation at the Irish Sailing Youth Nationals, with organisers now focusing on a possible Sunday finale

Racing at the Irish Sailing Foundation Youth Nationals has been cancelled for all classes on Saturday (April 11) at Ballyholme Yacht Club in Northern Ireland due to strong winds.

The decision followed an early morning inspection by the Principal Race Officer, with forecast models confirming increasing wind speeds throughout the day.

“Racing is cancelled for all Classes today,” organisers said in a statement. “All wind models are in line with the predicted increase in wind speeds through the day.”

Race management will meet again on Sunday morning to assess conditions and review the schedule for the final day of competition.

Despite the cancellation, a number of onshore activities will go ahead at the club.

A coaching roundtable for parents is scheduled for 4 pm, alongside a sailor activity. A BBQ is planned for 5:30 pm.

The cancellation follows a productive Day Two, when all seven fleets completed racing before conditions deteriorated later in the afternoon.

Current standings remain unchanged across the fleets, with leaders set to carry their advantage into Sunday if racing resumes.
