Youth charge: Topper sailors power through Ballyholme chop as racing resumed on Day Two of the Irish Sailing Youth Nationals, before strengthening winds forced an early end to proceedings

Racing resumed on Day Two of the Irish Sailing Youth Nationals at Ballyholme Yacht Club on Belfast Lough, with all seven fleets completing a full schedule before conditions deteriorated.

An earlier 10 am start was implemented to maximise racing time ahead of forecast stronger winds later in the day.

In the Optimist fleet, Emily Donagh (Royal St George YC / Lough Derg YC) moved into the overall lead after four races. Oscar Rowan (Waterford Harbour SC / Royal Cork YC) sits second, with Holly Cantwell (Royal St George YC) third.

The RS Feva fleet got underway after losing Day One to weather. Ellie Nolan and Niamh Coman (Royal North of Ireland YC) lead after four races, ahead of Jessica Dadley-Young and Sally Nixon (Ballyholme YC).

Kate Spain (Royal St George YC / Howth YC) leads the ILCA 4 fleet after five races. Adam Green (Lough Erne YC) is second, with Alex Butcher (Malahide YC) third.

In the Topper fleet, Leo West-Hurst (Ballyholme YC) retains his lead. Ben McCaldin (Lough Erne YC) has moved into second, while Cillian Fitzgerald (Skerries SC) is third.

The 420 class remains led by Daniel Coppithorne and Matt Mapplebeck (Royal Cork YC / Schull Harbour SC). Sean Lemonnier and Killian Matthieu (Galway Bay SC) are second, with Niamh Lynch and James Harvey (Waterford Harbour SC / Cumann Seoiltoirea Spideal) third.

The 29er fleet completed four races after missing Day One. Caoilinn Geraghty-McDonnell and Eoin Byrne (Royal Irish YC / National YC / Waterford Harbour SC) lead, ahead of Louise Hanley and Sebastian Wright (Royal St George YC / National YC) and Juliet Ryan and Ella Rock (National YC / Lough Derg YC).

Marcus Shelley (Royal St George YC) continues to lead the ILCA 6 fleet. Conor Cronin (Malahide YC) is second, with Joseph Robinson (Ballyholme YC) third.

Stronger winds arrived earlier than forecast in the afternoon, prompting race officials to send all fleets ashore.

Conditions will be reviewed ahead of the weekend programme, with athlete safety remaining the priority.
