One of Ireland’s longest-running paddlesport events returns this Saturday, the 19th of September, when the 65th Liffey Descent takes competitors on a 35km journey from Straffan in Co.Kildare to Kilmainham in Dublin.
The historic race will get underway at noon at The K Club, with the first competitors expected to reach the finish at the National War Memorial Gardens from approximately 2.15 pm.
35km Liffey Challenge
Combining competitive racing with the distinctive challenges of the River Liffey, the event attracts elite competitors and recreational paddlers. The course takes the fleet down through the Liffey Valley towards Dublin, with competitors negotiating the river over a demanding 35km course.
The Liffey Descent has become one of the best-known fixtures in Irish paddlesport, with Saturday marking the 65th edition of the race.
Saturday Start at Straffan
Racing begins at The K Club in Straffan at 12 pm before the fleet makes its way downstream towards the capital.
The National War Memorial Gardens in Kilmainham will host the finish, with leading competitors expected shortly after 2.15 pm. The finish will also bring together competitors, organisers and the wider paddling community following the day's racing.
