Registration is open for the Inishbofin Summer School in Connemara, now in its 42nd year. Described as Ireland’s longest-running outdoor environmental school, the course from July 6th to 10th on Inishbofin is led by marine biologists Dr Noirín Burke and Sibéal Regan.
Ecologist and artist Gordon D'Arcy, ecologist and conservationist Conor Ryan, local historian Tommy Burke, environmental education specialist Kay Synott, and award-winning poet, songwriter and children's writer Catherine Ann Cullen are also part of the multidisciplinary team.
The course is open to adults over 18 years and is approved by the Department of Education and Youth for three teacher extra personnel vacation (EPV) days on full course completion. The course fee is 165 euro per adult, with a discounted rate of 100 euro for retired individuals.
During five days of island walks and talks, participants will explore: Island life and habitats and outdoor learning; conservation and the Sustainable Development Goals; wellbeing and connecting to nature; island history and our place and space; creative writing and art.

We've got a favour to ask
More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven't put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.
Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full-time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.
So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
