Approval for minor flood mitigation works and coastal protection for Inishbofin off the Connemara coast has been approved by the Office of Public Works (OPW).
Under the scheme, the OPW has approved additional funding to Galway County Council of €90,000 for consultancy costs for the completion of a detailed design stage study.
This includes obtaining all relevant consents and licences for the proposed works, the OPW says.
“These proposed works include the transformation of the existing former East Pier into a proper breakwater structure at Cloonamore Bay,”it says.
It also includes consolidation of the existing protection afforded to Cloonamore Bay by “placing rock-filled gabion baskets along a section of the coastline to mitigate the risk of coastal erosion,”it says.
This brings the total funding to date to €200,157 for this project, it says.
