A dedicated quayside facility for the offshore renewable energy sector, a first for a port in the Republic, is poised to take place at the Port of Cork through a new €100m development.
The new 200m quayside is where the Cork Offshore Renewable Energy 1 (CORE1) deepwater berth will be located at Ringaskiddy East. The new infrastructure facility in lower Cork Harbour is scheduled to be ready for use by October, according to port officials.
The quay at CORE1 is to have the length, depth, and load-bearing capacities as required by companies in the offshore wind sector. As such, the new facility, neighbouring the Cork Container Terminal, is where the building of large-scale offshore wind farms proposed for the Irish and Celtic Seas is to take place.
