The actual cost of living on Ireland’s offshore islands will be one of the topics discussed at the rescheduled annual general meeting (AGM) of the Irish Islands Federation/Comhdháil Oileáin na hÉireann.
The AGM and forum will take place on Oileán Chléire/ Cape Clear Island, Co Cork this Monday September 7th and Tuesday September 8th.
This year’s gathering promises to be “both engaging and informative”, the federation says.
The AGM will be followed on Monday evening (from 7 pm approximately) by a social evening.
On Tuesday, a conference on living costs will include presentations on:
“The Real Cost of Living on Ireland’s Offshore Islands” by Dr Breandán Ó Caoimh, geographer, analyst and social researcher;
“What’s the future of the Irish Islands; a 20 year outlook” by Cian Ó hAllóráin, KPMG;
“Our Living Islands Policy and Action Plan Review’’ by Aibhlín McCrann, Communiqué Int;
“Cargo services to the islands: a review” by a representative from the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht;
And “The Story of Cape Clear” by Kevin McCann.
