International hotel groups are moving into the cruise sector with a new generation of luxury yachts, led by the launch of the Orient Express Corinthian.
The vessel, developed for the French Accor Group, is described as the “world’s largest sail yacht cruise ship”. It has completed sea trials and propulsion tests at Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire.
The builder reported that, in winds of 20 knots, the yacht reached 12 knots under sail alone and is expected to achieve speeds of up to 17 knots.
The 220-metre vessel measures 25,200 gross tonnes and features three masts with a combined sail area of 48,500 square feet. It also incorporates LNG propulsion and will accommodate 110 passengers across 54 suites.
Entry into service is expected in late spring, with a sister ship, Orient Express Olympian, scheduled for delivery in 2027.
The move reflects a wider trend, with brands such as Four Seasons and Ritz-Carlton also entering the market. The focus is on ultra-luxury experiences aimed at high-end clients seeking alternatives to traditional cruise offerings.
