Red Arrival — Fast Anna Sofia sails through the Drogheda channel on her inaugural visit to the Co Louth port as Fast Lines expands its Irish short-sea shipping services

Fast Lines’ newest vessel, Fast Anna Sofia, has made its inaugural call to Drogheda Port, marking another milestone in the Belgian operator’s long-standing trade links with Ireland.

The vessel arrived at the Co Louth port today following its recent launch in Antwerp. It is one of two new ships introduced by Fast Lines as part of an investment in short-sea shipping services between Belgium and Ireland.

Named after Scheers family member Anna Sophia, the ship is expected to become a regular visitor to Drogheda, carrying break-bulk import and export cargoes on European trade routes.

To mark the first visit, Master Capt. Mirek Kieca received traditional gifts from Drogheda Port including bread, Oriel salt and honey produced by the port’s indigenous black honeybees.

Drogheda Port said the continued investment by Fast Lines highlighted the importance of regional shipping links and growing confidence in sustainable short-sea freight services.

The port added that the new vessels would strengthen trade connectivity between Ireland and continental Europe while supporting Drogheda’s role as a regional logistics hub.

Fast Lines has operated regular services through Drogheda for many years, linking Irish importers and exporters with ports across northern Europe.
