The Transition Year students from St. Oliver's have repainted the Mall Buoy in Drogheda with a new SOSAD-themed design that promotes hope, visibility, and community support during the winter season. Pictured from left to right are Capt. Transition Year students from St. Oliver’s Community College have unveiled a new design on Drogheda’s Mall Buoy, created in partnership with mental health charity SOSAD.

Students Sophie Donegan and Senan Hennessy-Moore worked with art teacher Sarah McAlevey to complete the project. The buoy, once a working maritime marker, now serves as a public canvas for community messages.

Drogheda Port Company oversees the initiative, supported by local firms. This year’s artwork features the SOSAD logo and freephone number.

A spokesperson said the design aims to ensure “anyone who may be struggling knows that support is always within reach”.

The installation comes ahead of Christmas, a period when many people may feel vulnerable. Organisers say the buoy now stands as a reminder of hope and community solidarity.

SOSAD Freephone: 1800 901 909.
