Dún Laoghaire Harbour will soon be home to the new National Watersports Campus. The Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Frank Curran, signed the design and planning contract on Monday, May 13th.
Ready Architecture + Urbanism Ltd. and a multidisciplinary team that includes several architects and engineering firms will develop the project. The team will handle design, planning, and foreshore consent.
Cllr Jim O’Leary, Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, stated, “Dún Laoghaire Harbour already has much of the infrastructure and activities required for this development.”
The campus will serve as a hub for national governing bodies, marine leisure, and high-performance training. It aims to promote health and inclusivity in watersports.
Funding of €852,845 has been granted through the Large-Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund. This support comes from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport, and Media.
In the pipeline for over six years, the new facilities will include an events slipway, training centre, and improved launching areas. Stakeholders believe this will significantly boost participation in watersports locally.
Frank Curran added, “We are thrilled to be working with the design team. The project will benefit the local community and provide a world-class venue for athletes.”
The new National Watersports Campus at Dún Laoghaire Harbour will include state-of-the-art facilities for athletes and the community.
