A new public park is planned for The Metals Green in Dún Laoghaire Harbour, aimed at transforming an 'underused green space into a vibrant coastal destination'.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is seeking public feedback on the proposal until 6 February 2026.
The 3,900 square metre site lies between the Royal Irish Yacht Club and the Commissioners of Irish Lights. It overlooks the marina and is positioned along the coastal mobility route.
The plan includes a new accessible route, terraced seating, a yoga lawn, a tiered lawn, and playful elements for children. A central area will accommodate a mobile kiosk, and coastal planting will enhance biodiversity.
“This is a placemaking project to create an attractive destination and assist in the regeneration of Dún Laoghaire Harbour,” the Council said in its Part 8 report.
A new shoreside balustrade and viewing platform will offer panoramic views over the harbour and support public connection to the waterfront.
Cycle access will be supported by bike and cargo-bike parking near the main entrances. Terraced seating will respond to site gradients while offering space for rest and informal gathering.
Sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS) will manage rainwater on-site in an eco-sensitive way, part of wider climate action goals.
Soft landscaping will include lawns, wildflowers and coastal trees. Solar-powered bins and upgraded lighting will also be installed.
The park aligns with the Dún Laoghaire Urban Framework Plan and the 2025 Harbour Masterplan, both aiming to revitalise the seafront with connected, people-first spaces.
An Environmental Impact Assessment and Appropriate Assessment screenings found that no further studies were required.
Public consultation is open from 16 December 2025 to 6 February 2026. Comments can be submitted online via the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council website.
