Stena Nordica’s Return to Fishguard-Rosslare Route Delayed

12th May 2026

Stena Line's routine Fishguard-to-Rosslare route ferry, Stena Nordica, was due to take over the crossing this week after a four-month absence, during which time the ro-pax has been covering other Irish Sea routes for the operator.

The 24,206-ton ferry is currently operating on Stena’s central Irish Sea route of Holyhead to Dublin Port while another ferry is in drydock.

During this time, the Japan-built ‘Nordica’ has been replaced by the smaller ropax MV Ben-my-Chree, which, since 7 January, has been chartered from the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company.

The former flagship of the Manx company usually runs between Douglas and Heysham in Lancashire,  but returned to the route in May for a one-off run, leaving the South Wales port without a ferry service.

For more on the reason for the delayed reintroduction of the Stena Nordica on the St. George's Channel route, the Western Telegraph has a report.

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven't put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full-time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
