Ireland’s seafood sector received more than €48 million in state funding in 2025, according to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

A total of €21.9 million in grant aid supported 1,606 operations under the Seafood Development Programme. The schemes, delivered by Bord Iascaigh Mhara, targeted the fisheries, aquaculture, and processing sectors nationwide.

An additional €26.6 million was spent on the Fishery Harbour and Coastal Infrastructure Capital Programme.

“This programme funds infrastructural development in state-owned Fishery Harbour Centres and supports local authority-owned piers and slipways,” said Minister of State Timmy Dooley.

These investments form part of the Department’s broader support package for rural and coastal communities, which totalled €2.18 billion in 2025.

Forestry also received €76 million, while CAP payments to farmers made up the majority of disbursements.

Minister Martin Heydon stated: “These payments support food security and economic benefits to the Irish economy from agriculture and marine sectors.”

Minister Grealish highlighted that Ireland’s international agri-food and seafood reputation relies on the dedication of producers and continued investment in research.
