Irish seafood exporters were showcased at the world’s largest trade fair this week in Barcelona.
Timmy Dooley joined Bord Bia in supporting a 20-strong Irish contingent at the Seafood Expo Global 2026 from 21 to 23 April.
The event featured more than 2,100 exhibitors from over 87 countries, highlighting global seafood supply and demand.
Irish companies exhibited under Bord Bia’s Origin Green programme, which promotes sustainable food production across the sector.
Speaking at the Irish pavilion, Dooley said Irish food and drink exports reached over €21 billion across 180 markets in 2025.
“The Irish seafood sector exported more than €672 million to over 70 countries,” he said.
He added that more than 200,000 tonnes of Irish seafood are exported annually, including pelagics, whitefish, shellfish, salmon and trout.
Dooley said demand for “premium quality, responsibly sourced seafood from Ireland remains very strong”.
He noted that Irish seafood’s global reach reflects the country’s marine environment and species diversity.
“Irish exporters place great value on product integrity and responsible practices,” he said.
He said this supports long-term business relationships and consistent product quality.
Concluding, Dooley thanked seafood companies for their efforts and customers for their continued support.
