Galway City Council has warned of wave overtopping and dangerous travelling conditions from early tomorrow morning (Monday) as Storm Floris approaches the west coast of Ireland.
The warning for very strong and blustery southwest winds veering westerly, with some damaging gusts, is valid from 0200 hours to 1300 hours on Monday, August 4th.
The yellow wind and rain warnings issued by Met Éireann coincide with a 3.53 metre high tide in Galway at 0145 hours Monday.
Apart from wave overtopping along Salthill promenade and right around the bay, the city council warns of structural damage, and dangerous travelling conditions due to fallen trees, risks from debris and loose objects carried in strong gusts.
Storm Floris is also expected to bring spells of heavy rain, with a chance of thunder and lightning and localised flooding.
It says those camping and caravanning should monitor the forecast, and choose sheltered locations and avoid exposed sites on hillsides or cliffs.
Met Éireann will have the most up-to-date information here and across media platforms.
It says that ESB emergency services can be contacted at 1800 372 999, and power restoration times will be issued on www.PowerCheck.ie
