The first of three races of the weekend's BJ Marine Taste of Greystones Regatta was sailed in light winds off the County Wicklow coast on Saturday afternoon (August 23rd), with Dun Laoghaire visitors coming out top in three of the four divisions, including the biggest IRC Four fleet of 22 boats.
Chimaera takes Class 1 win at Taste of Greystones Regatta
In Class 1, the J109 Chimaera took top IRC honours in the opening race. Barry Cunningham’s J109 from the Royal Irish Yacht Club won on corrected time to claim first place. Second went to local boat Crazy Diamond, Frank Whelan’s Archambault 31. Another Adventure, an Archambault 35 helmed by Darragh Cafferky, also of Greystones, finished third. Ten boats competed.
Attitude claims top spot in Greystones Class 2
Attitude claimed a decisive win in Class 2 IRC. Skipper Paul Wafer’s Beneteau First 31.7 took first place with a corrected time that put him ahead of the fleet. John Conlon’s Jeanneau Sunfast 37, Humdinger, followed in second. Joe Taylor’s No Brakes, a Beneteau First 27.7, secured third place. Nine boats competed.
Snoopy’s J sails to Class 3 win
A J24 design led the way in IRC Class 3. Snoopy’s J, sailed by Mahon, Allen, and Sutton, took first with a corrected time of 1:20:48. Hunter Formula 1 Usain Boat, helmed by Paddy Blackley, finished second on 1:21:06 corrected. Graeme Noonan’s Flash, a Formula 28, took third with a time of 1:22:23 corrected. Fourteen boats competed under IRC rating.
Playtime leads 22-boat fleet in Greystones Class 4 contest
Elan 333 Playtime topped the Class 4 fleet. Johnnie Phillips steered to victory with a corrected time of 1:26:40, winning by 32 seconds. Eamonn Doyle’s Shearwater, a Dehler 36SQ, came second on 1:27:12 corrected. Paul Conway’s Contessa 32 Cevantes placed third in 1:27:39 corrected. Twenty-two boats competed under IRC rules, with no discards applied.
Taste of Greystones Regatta 2025 racing continues on Sunday with two more races.
