Aran Island energy expert Avril Ní Shearcaigh is one of the speakers at an energy justice webinar this Thursday, December 5th.
Avril Ní Shearcaigh, based in Galway, is the manager of Comharchumann Fuinnimh Oileáin Árann Teo, the Aran Island Energy Co-Op.
She will speak about working with local residents and other stakeholders in the energy transition and on some of the initiatives being taken towards energy efficiency on the Aran Islands.
As previously reported by Afloat, the co-op has been spearheading renewable energy transition on the three islands off the Galway coast.
Ms Ní Shearcaigh is one of several participants in the webinar entitled Safe, Warm, Green: Towards Energy Justice.
It is being hosted by Feminist Communities for Climate Justice – a joint project between the National Women’s Council and Community Work Ireland.
The webinar will address “the intersection of housing, energy, and cost-of-living crises in Ireland”, the organisers say.
It will “advocate for energy justice through inclusive policies that prioritise vulnerable communities, promote affordable and green energy solutions, and ensure secure, warm homes for all”.
Other speakers are:
- Theresa O’Donohoe – a graduate of the changing Ireland certificate programme run by the Department of Applied Social Studies in Maynooth University in conjunction with Community Work Ireland and the National Women’s Council
- Sara Hurley – Global Citizen Education and Outreach Officer, Friends of the Earth
