The ninth Valentia Lecture will return to the historic Cable Station on the County Kerry island to discuss the topic “ Ireland’s Place in the World of 2040" this Thursday and Friday.
Speakers include historian Professor Jane Ohlmeyer of Trinity College Dublin, journalist Mick Clifford, Minister of State Michael Healy-Rae, and businessman Denis O'Brien.
Leonard Hobbs, Chairperson of the organising committee, said the Lecture format has changed this year.
"Presentations will be followed by a panel discussion with Ireland’s future leaders, all in their 30s, the same age as Cyrus Field, the entrepreneur who transformed the world when he led the transatlantic cable project in the late 1800s. Over 30 of these future leaders will be participating from the world of business, politics, academia, media, government, arts and sport, in which they will be asked to reflect on the Ireland of today and to share their vision for Ireland in 2040 and its place in a globally interconnected world."
