A new book from award-winning photographer Nigel Motyer captures the vibrant marine life along Ireland’s coastline.

Motyer has been diving and photographing Irish waters since the 1980s. In addition to Afloat in Ireland, his work has appeared in National Geographic and other global publications.

The 224-page hardback features images of basking sharks, coral reefs, and swirling shoals off the Skelligs.

It is the first photo book to fully document Ireland’s underwater wildlife using high-definition imagery.

“These inspirational pages showcase Irish waters like never before,” said Dr Alex Mustard MBE, President of the British Society of Underwater Photographers.

The book also aims to shift public perception that marine beauty is limited to tropical waters.

Motyer uses his lens to advocate for ocean protection, with images captured from the Arctic to the Indo-Pacific.

The publication highlights marine biodiversity and includes educational insights alongside each photograph.

Beneath Irish Seas: The Hidden Wonders of Ireland’s Amazing Marine Life will be published on 23 October by Merrion Press.

It is available in hardback from 23 October, priced at €27.99.
