Shipyard A&P Falmouth, in southwest England, has entered into a new five-year framework agreement with Isle of Wight ferry operator Red Funnel to provide annual ship repair services.
The ferry company which operates across the Solent between Southampton and West/East Cowes, is to see the shipyard, part of the ACPL Group, cover Red Funnel’s trio of 'Raptor' class vehicle ferries. They are the Red Falcon, Red Osprey built in 1994 and Afloat notes the final of the trio Red Eagle was completed two years later.
In addition the shipyard agreement involves the freight-only ferry Red Kestrel built by Merseyside yard Cammell Laird also part of the Group, which entered service in 2019. The agreement will see all four ferries dry dock at A&P Falmouth annually for five years.
This is the second framework agreement to have been signed between both A&P Falmouth and Cammell Laird.
The new agreement was signed by Giles Francis MBA FCMA, Commercial Director at A&P Falmouth, and Sean Collins, Head of Technical at Red Funnel. It is based on the principals of the original framework agreement and will see A&P and Red Funnel continuing to work collaboratively to develop upfront specifications on each vessel to minimise emergent work during dry docking periods, minimising the amount of time each vessel spends in dock.
