European Boating Industry (EBI), whose members include the Irish Marine Federation, is recruiting for a newly created position as Regulatory Affairs Officer based in Brussels.

The new role will focus on advocacy and regulatory issues affecting the recreational boating industry, including chemicals, antifouling, sustainability and environmental legislation.

The Regulatory Affairs Officer will monitor and analyse EU regulatory and policy developments, engage with EU institutions and agencies and support EBI members on regulatory and technical issues.

The successful candidate will also coordinate with the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA), which is supporting the position as part of its collaboration with EBI to streamline marine industry advocacy activities.

Among the areas covered by the role are chemical regulatory processes, the EU Biocidal Products Regulation, Marine Strategy Framework Directive, Water Framework Directive, circularity and wider sustainability and environmental regulation.

The officer will also contribute to advocacy through briefings, consultation responses and position papers, and lead technical work on EU-funded projects, including projects related to underwater noise.

EBI represents the recreational boating and nautical tourism sector in Europe through 24 national associations and 14 sustaining members. The industry encompasses approximately 32,000 companies and more than 18,000 marinas, supporting an estimated 280,000 direct jobs.

The full-time Brussels-based position is initially offered on a two-year contract, with the aim of extending it to an unlimited contract. The role provides for two days of home working per week and some partial remote working.

Candidates should have around two years of relevant experience and an understanding of EU decision-making and stakeholders. A relevant university degree is preferred, while an interest in boating and watersports is considered an advantage.

Applicants must already have the right to work in Belgium or the EU.

Applications, comprising a CV, motivation letter and salary expectations, should be submitted to EBI by 16 August 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed in September.
