RYA Cymru Wales has issued a statement confirming the resignation of its chair, Mike Butterfield.

Brian Oulton, as senior independent director, will assume the position of interim chair until a new chair is appointed.

Oulton said: “The members of RYA Cymru Wales board wish to thank Mike for his long and dedicated service to the board. We appreciate the very many hours he has committed to volunteering in the pursuit of supporting sailing.”

RYA Cymru Wales says the board will begin the process of appointing a new chair as soon as possible.

Earlier this summer, RYA Cymru Wales’s chief executive officer Gerwyn Owen stepped down after more than two-and-a-half years for a new role as commercial manager for the Hafan Marina and Harbour in Pwllheli. He has been succeeded by Chris Munro, previously of the Welsh Rugby Union.
