Five people were found alive after surviving in small “air pockets” within the 44-metre yacht that sank in the Red Sea off Egypt earlier this week.
As Marine Industry News reports, the survivors were trapped in the vessel for over 30 hours before rescuers could reach them, in complete darkness and frigid water temperatures.
The wooden tourist yacht Sea Story, which was built only two years ago, sank within minutes of being stuck by a succession of high waves amid rough weather near the coral reef of Shaab Satayah on Monday morning (25 November), leaving those on board little to no time to react.
A total of 33 people were rescued from the capsized vessel, including an Irish citizen who was receiving consular assistance as of Tuesday evening (26 November).
But four people have been confirmed dead in the tragedy, while seven remain missing. Marine Industry News has more on the story HERE.
