Youghal, County Cork's Safehaven Marine, operated by Frank Kowalski, has secured a contract to build another Interceptor 48 Pilot Boat for the Port of Miami in the United States.
The order follows the first vessel, MIAMI, entering service with the Biscayne Bay Pilots in October last year and operating through demanding winter conditions.
Bronson Stubs, the marine pilot responsible for the vessel’s procurement, said the boat had exceeded expectations.
“She’s a great pilot boat, Frank… really stable and predictable undertaking pilot transfers in rough seas,” he said.
Stubs noted the vessel’s performance in severe weather, adding that pilots and crew valued its safety and handling.
“It’s nice to have such a safe boat… better than all our other boats in bad weather,” he said.
According to Saehaven, the new Interceptor 48 is due for delivery in early 2027.
Safehaven Marine currently has pilot boats under construction for A Coruña in Spain, Montevideo in Uruguay and Blyth in the UK.
A further Pilot 48 has recently been launched and is now being shipped to Newport in the United States.
As regular Afloat readers know, Port of Waterford took delivery of an Interceptor 48 in 2021 and Port of Cork in 2024.
