How Europe’s fisheries control agency is headed by a woman from West Cork and why artists are continuously drawn to west coast islands were among topics covered on the latest edition of RTÉ Radio 1 Seascapes.
Dr Susan Steele, chief executive of the EFCA, spoke about her agency’s role on board the Ocean Guardian, one of its three patrol vessels, which visited Cork last month for European Maritime Day.
The programme’s news round up included reports on the latest developments in offshore renewable energy and the rescue of four migrants at sea by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition’s yacht Madleen, before the Israeli Defence Forces detained it.

Artists Sacha Hutchinson, Ger O’Rourke and Hilary Morley explained how the sea and island landscapes inform their work, following their recent group exhibition in Oughterard Courthouse gallery, Co Galway.
