Seascapes returns for an hour-long look back at 2025 on RTÉ Radio 1 this Friday night.
Highlights include interviews with marine cameraman Seamus Hayes, surfing GP Dr Katie McAnena and European Fisheries Control Agency executive director Dr Susan Steele.
The 20th anniversary of the jailing of the Rossport Five from north Mayo, an extract from Eimear McAuley’s insightful report from on board a cruise ship in Co Cork, and Jan Ní Fhlanagáin’s fascinating discussion with librarian and poet, Tom French in Bettystown, Co Meath, are also among topics covered.

As the programme notes, there were many sailing achievements in 2025 – including the J24 World Championships, which Lough Ree Yacht Club’s Cillian Dickson and crew won, and Howth Yacht Club’s Eve McMahon’s stellar success in taking a bronze in the Olympic ILCA 6 world championships.
2025 was also a major year for sailing centenaries, as Winkie Nixon recorded recently on Afloat.ie, with 100 years of the Fastnet Yacht Race and the centenary of Irishman Conor O’Brien’s completion of his great voyage round the world south of the great Capes in yacht Saoirse.
The Seascapes compilation of extracts from the six-part series broadcast earlier this year is presented by Lorna Siggins and produced by Ronan Kelly.
It will be broadcast on RTÉ Radio 1 on Friday, January 2nd, from 10 pm to 11 pm.
