Larne RNLI launched on Sunday afternoon following reports of a person injured on rocks at Drains Bay.
The volunteer crew launched the inshore lifeboat Terry at 2.03 pm at the request of HM Coastguard. Helm Willie Evans and crew members Jack Healy, Jordan McIlhinney and Scott Leitch responded to the call. Conditions at the time were calm, with smooth seas and a light southerly breeze.
On arrival, the casualty was found on rocks near Drains Bay beach. In a joint operation with HM Coastguard Larne, several crew members went ashore to assist with casualty care.
Following an initial assessment by an off-duty paramedic with HM Coastguard, it was suspected the casualty had suffered a broken leg. The casualty was placed on a stretcher and transferred aboard the lifeboat before being taken to a more accessible section of shoreline.
They were then handed into the care of the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.
Speaking after the rescue, Larne RNLI Helm Willie Evans thanked a member of the public who raised the alarm. “We would like to wish the casualty well,” he said. “We would also like to commend the member of the public for raising the alarm, that is always the right thing to do.”
He added, “Should you see someone in difficulty, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.”
