Tramore RNLI’s volunteer lifeboat crew were paged at 3.46pm on Saturday afternoon (30 May) to launch their D class lifeboat after a member of the public had witnessed some people thrown into the water from a jet ski near Tramore Pier.
In a multi-agency call-out involving Tramore Coastguard, the National Ambulance Service and gardaí, Tramore’s inshore ifeboat launched at 3.52pm and within two minutes had located the jet ski and found 3 persons on the rocks, under the cliff at the Doneraile walk.
Two casualties were taken on board to the pier and the lifeboat returned and transferred the third casualty shortly afterwards.
All three were found to be in good health and needed no medical attention at the time.
The Marine Rescue Coordination Centre requested that Tramore RNLI recover the jet ski, as it posed a navigation hazard. The jet ski was towed to the Ladies Slip for recovery, assisted by Tramore Coastguards.
Clive Smith, Tramore RNLI lifeboat operations manager said: “Helm Dave O’Hanlon, crew members Ward Griffin and Peter Kelly carried out a textbook extraction in challenging conditions.”
