Two people and a dog were rescued after an inflatable drifted around half a mile offshore off the County Down coast on Sunday afternoon.
Newcastle RNLI launched its relief Atlantic 85 lifeboat Enid Foster MBE at about 4pm after Belfast Coastguard received reports of an inflatable drifting off Minerstown Beach.
The volunteer crew, led by helm Locky Leneghan, made best speed to the scene with assistance from RNLI lifeguards on patrol at nearby Tyrella Beach, who kept watch on the casualties and provided updates.
The lifeboat reached the inflatable around 15 minutes after launching. The crew confirmed the two people and their dog were uninjured before transferring them aboard the lifeboat.
They were returned safely to the beach and handed into the care of Newcastle Coastguard.
The RNLI used the incident to remind beachgoers that inflatables are unsuitable for use at the coast because offshore winds and currents can quickly carry them away from shore.
