Three-time America’s Cup winner Peter Burling is now part of Luna Rossa’s challenge for the 38th edition of the storied sailing contest.

As Marine Industry News reports, the New Zealander has yet to be given a defined role with the Italian team, but it’s expected he will contribute to both technical development and sailing operations.

Burling helped Emirates Team New Zealand win the Auld Mug in 2017 and defend it in 2021 and 2024.

The 34-year-old left the team two months ago, transferring to their Italian rivals in what’s been described as a mutual agreement.

Burling is not the only Kiwi to make the leap to Luna Rossa, as Josh Junior was announced as signing with the team over the weekend. The New Zealand Herald has more on the story HERE.

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven't put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full-time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
