After a ding-dong Half-Tonner battle all week in IRC Two of Volvo Cork Week, the Dwyer family's Swuzzlebubble has taken the lead going into Friday's final races.
With Cork Harbour shrouded in a fine sea mist, a light southerly breeze prevailed on day four, providing fully powered-up conditions for the vintage leaders.
Principal Race Officer Con Murphy sent the fleet on a windward leeward course just east of Roche’s point. The first race was in a 190-degree wind up to 15-20 knots in wet, misty conditions.
In race two, the wind dropped to about 12 knots, and visibility dropped to about 300m in fog. Due to poor visibility, no race 3 was held.
One-time leaders Boardman, Kelly, and O’Leary’s in 2 Farr (RSC & BSC) have had a scoring penalty applied (5) after Wednesday's Harbour race, giving the ICRA Boat of the Year 2023 a one-point advantage heading into Friday.
This contest between these near sisterships will only be decided by the last race on Friday.
Lying third is another Half Tonner, Ronan and John Downing's, Miss Whiplash, on ten points in the 12-boat fleet.
Racing concludes on Friday.
